Selected keyboard works for class

      Haydn probably composed for the harpsichord from the early 1750s until the later 1770s.

      By 1780 he was certainly composing for the piano.


Keyboard (Piano) Sonatas  (62 in all -  From No. 33 (1771) on are best)

      Haydn composed keyboard sonatas fairly regularly though out his career.

      But there was a 13 year period (1771 - 1784) in which he did not compose keyboard trios.

Piano Concertos  (11)

    Haydn's first 10 piano concertos were early works written before 1772 (not important). 

    Piano Concerto No. 11 in D major (Hob XVIII.11)  (1780 - 1783)

    Beethoven mostly first made a name for himself in Vienna between 1793 and 1799 as a pianist
    and composer of piano sonatas.  He published 10 sonatas before 1800, the year of
    his first symphony.
